POSITION PURPOSE:

Serve as the chief administrator of a school in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in education administration from an accredited college or university;
  • Five years of experience as a classroom teacher.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator's License for School Administrator-Principal;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • General Planning
    The principal conceptualizes the broad goals of the school and plans accordingly to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the total school program.
  • General Coordination
    The principal ensures that the school program is compatible with the legal, financial, and organizational structure of the school system. The principal defines the responsibilities and accountability of staff members and develops plans for interpreting the school program to the community.
  • Enhancement of Personnel Skills
    The principal provides activities which facilitate the professional growth of the school staff and enhance the quality of the instructional program.
  • School Objectives

  • Curriculum Objectives
    The principal ensures that instructional objectives for a given subject and/or classroom are developed and involves the faculty and others in the development of specific curricular objectives to meet the needs of the school program. WORKING CONDITIONS:
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to use a variety of office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. Must be able to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing. At times requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to ten pounds. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for sedentary work.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to work in an office environment and come into direct contact with school system staff, students, and the public.

School Profile:
Southeast Raleigh Elementary School will be a community responsive school with approximately 500 students, including four (4) Pre-K classes. The school will be located on Rock Quarry Road and directly adjoined to the YMCA, sharing both space and programming. The school is also a part of a larger community revitalization initiative coordinated by Southeast Raleigh Promise focused on education, health and wellness, housing, economic opportunity and leadership development. In addition, the school will serve both students who are in the attendance zone and students who apply to attend. All students will come from the Rock Quarry corridor.

The instructional foundation of the school will include high quality Tier I instruction alongside The Leader in Me framework. In addition, the school will have strong business/community partnerships, wrap around services, extended school day opportunities and targeted professional development for staff. The school will have the benefit of Title I resources, which will be utilized to support the school’s innovative approach to teaching and learning. As a community responsive school there will be a highlighted focus on health and wellness as well as enhanced curricular activities such as swimming. This school will be the first of its kind in the WCPSS, providing a unique educational experience for students and its surrounding community.
